I create my best work when there is a genuine connection between the three of us. I need to care about you two as human beings and not just clients because that is when the magic happens. And that’s not just a feel good, filler sentence that looks nice on my website. When I start genuinely caring about and empathizing with you, that is when I start looking through my lens and seeing you two as the people you are, and not just as 2 strangers in front of a beautiful backdrop. You are two people with your own way of loving each other, your own way of fighting about who should’ve done the dishes, your own way of spending a Saturday night together, your own way of deciding if you should get the one or two bedroom apartment, your own way of doing all of the things that make up your relationship. Couples tell me all the time “I want the photos to feel like us.” Trust me, I have found through my years of shooting that to do that, I need to know what all of your “own ways” are for your relationship. I will work with as much of you as you want to share with me. This will involve us getting to know each other with regular communication from when you book me to when I finish documenting you. “Regular communication” will be more frequent for some couples and less for others. It will be however much or little you need and want. When I feel and understand the story you share with each other, I am able to document the two of you honestly as you are, in all of your beautiful glory. I am able to give you the session that lets you go back in time and feel the passion between you two. I am able to preserve the essence of you + your person’s connection.
